VERTICAL

The festival gathers under its flags modern experimental actual currents, and also the "forgotten" traditional forms of art. Formula VERTICAL opens for today’s people with their modern thinking the ethnic beginning, sources, "roots" of cultures (dancing and not only); in some sense returns the lost, improving skill up – through modern forms of creativity. Therefore – vertical! It is a lot of tops, the best aspirations always gravitate to them. VERTICAL is the search for modern language on the basis of memory of "ancient dialects”. Search of harmonies in a complex texture of a yesterday’s echo and new voices of art. Connection of the past and the future – here is the theme of festival.

The art director who sets an impulse and builds the program is invited to each project. “In the theme” the creative group of the project is typed: actors, musicians, artists, art-associations. The festival spirit lives in all that it fills: performances, the master-classes, lectures, exhibitions, concerts, etc. VERTICAL transforms a place and time in the polyphonic sounding street organ: with varying bright pictures, tapes, bells and the pleasant scratch of the internal mechanism setting the FESTIVAL in motion.
The art director of the first two projects of VERTICAL was the founder, director and the actor of the theatre DEREVO - Anton Adasinskiy. In the first – he managed to break a stereotype of a place: the museum of city history – the Peter and Paul Fortress – turned to a platform of vanguard of theatrical performance. The fortress was taken by “wooden toy soldiers” led by Adasinskiy (theatre DEREVO). Week of the "vertical" drive unrecognizably changed the appearance of museum traditional character.
