A vigorous open-air, sited in historic heart of Saint-Petersburg, unites marathon of shorts with various forms of modern art. Independent musicians, actors, artists and avant-garde theatres create an extra pretext for personal view of things. OPEN CINEMA has managed to generate a new film festival format per se. Both for Saint-Petersburg and for Russia it is a large-scale viewers’ festival with individual meaning, attracting to non-commercial short films experts, amateurs of intellectual cinema and ordinary spectators as well. Every year open-air beach-show is attended by more than 10 thousand people; more than 8 thousand spectators come to watch festival programs to the movie theatres. President of the Festival – Ludmila Lipeiko General Manager of the Festival – Tamara Larina Head of Expert Council – Irina Evteeva ______________________ TOPIC OF THE FESTIVAL ![]() In 2010 world cinema is celebrating Hollywood’s 100th anniversary. The history of “dream factory” began with the movie of DW Griffith “In Old California” (1910) that was produced in the north-west of Los Angeles. The film-makers were the first discovers of small district named Hollywood, that soon turned into a centre of American cinema industry. The anniversary date determined the theme and whole style of OPEN CINEMA 2010. The festival is going to build a bridge in time between classical cinema and new forms of cinema art. For the first time TCM (Turner Classic Movies) TV Channel becomes the official partner of OPEN CINEMA 2010. OPEN CINEMA-TCM’s friendship appeared intentionally. The Hollywood’s anniversary has united both "friends". There are more than 5000 American and European films in Turner Classic Movies collection - from Hollywood’s Golden age till the end of XX century. But it’s not just about well-known masterworks. Experienced cinemalovers will be lured by exclusive documentaries and interviews with "dream factory" creators. Channel’s motto is "No simple watching - feel the cinema together with TCM". There’s no doubt that jubilee topic will be reflected in festival’s program. Special occasion dedicated to the anniversary was prepared by OPEN CINEMA and TCM - the photo exhibition “Icons of Hollywood” will be opened on September, 2. The exhibition contains more than 20 unique portraits – from Humphrey Bogart to Marylin Monroe. However, visitors will admire not only American cinema stars: the presentation of “Icons of Hollywood” will be held by famous Russian musicians and painters – Boris Grebenshikov, Mitya Shagin and actors of AXE theatre. During the press-conference these famous persons will paint black&white images to colour. After the festival the “icons” made by informal masters will be put up for auction in Moscow. Money from the auction sale will be spent on the needs of rehabilitation oncological centre in Moscow and St. Petersburg animation school "DA!" for disabled children.
