With all of us. – And where to? – There, where it has been waited – to miocard… => .WORK-SHOPS => ..PROGRAM OF FESTIVAL This year VERTICAL is coming out in a new light overcoat, – having replaced autumn for the spring. Couturier is all the same – the art-center BEREG. At the end of March VERTICAL is going to open the festival season by a new collection of the refined art of BUTOH dance. BUTOH relations gonna pull out SPb (Saint-Petersburg) from hibernation by vanguard apocryphal stories of the Japanese art. Butoh – the unique phenomenon, research less, though for a long time it has become fashionable. It’s not absolutely theatre, nor absolutely dance. More likely it – psychosomatic research, “archeology of a body”: removing a cultural layer one by one – as shirts of a skirt and jackets – Butoh reaches the primary nature of a body, up to its latent opportunities. The main tool - is work with a body through consciousness. Research – is embodied into art. Two years ago in SPb the veil of the Japanese Butoh-madness was slightly opened. VERTICAL_2005: "MAD in JAPAN" was all in the same “Music-Hall”. Who was – that remembers; who was not – that till now bites elbows. That time for the first time in Russia the followers of Tatsumi Hijikata and Katsuo Ono (patriarchs of Butoh) show their skills. The masters of Russian Butoh became guides: Anton Adasinskiy and his theatre DEREVO. Having been launched into crowd in 2005 the Butoh virus is coming back two years later by the recrudescence in “BUTOH relations”. SPb is about to see again the degeneration of the body through its “destroying”, to sink into the rebus of Butoh dreams, to feel itself the net state: being out of package and any peel. This time Butoh is coming by new powerful compound (10 people!), made especially for the European tour. For the first time Russia is going to meet the Japanese Butoh actress (before there were imported only actors). And such impact is intriguing! The Butoh secret is to be attacked from four sides: theory and practice, movement and music (the lections, concerts, workshops, performances, and shows…). The whole theatre space is going to be used. To discover the Butoh enigma seems impossible, - you have to live by that, - but to touch it everyone has a chance. It obtains vogue, but it doesn’t succumb to invariable definitions. To set label with concrete parameters onto Butoh in the modern wardrobe of the dance art is impossible. Why? Just because the Butoh definition subsists of not only esthetic and genre, but much more objective temper. The question of creative work in Butoh is so much mixed to the question of existence that the dance and life for the Butoh-dancers become indiscernible. The Butoh indefinability in many ways is its leading part, because in basis of this dance is intention to disintegration of any codification. One of the Butoh aims – is achievement of such mind and body state, when the connecting-link between thought, feeling, and movement is disappears. The Butoh medotology of teaching looks like to be more wrestle with stereotypes and stamps of a body than learning attainments; negotiation of ego for the ability to be participle to the truth, which is in deep inner world of the dancer, and, in the same time, is out at the outside surrounding the dancer. It is style that consists of destroying any style. Famous Butoh dancer, Min Tanaka, said in one of his interview: “More over people try to understand Butoh, more over they understand. Some things exist, such as stars and moon, which aren’t to be touched. Nothing is as beautiful, wonderful and reachless as incomprehensible.” The Butoh patriarch – Tatsumi Hijikata – named Butoh dance crawling to the innards of Earth. The theme of reversion of body to its original state is the basis theme of that dance, so the embryonic pose is used like this often; the pose of a human being is lying on back with snuggled hands and legs. Butoh, in the dancers’ explanations, is the ability to be shy and humble, to be lateral to the adjusting world, not to dance but to be danced, not to dance at a place, but to dance the place. You may say that the main character of Butoh dance is not a human but outside state, which manipulates hisher body. And the body is experiencing this angle and is responding to it. |
